That's because there are an awful lot of ignorant people out there...

And on this thread.

I can see why the Catholic Church would mobilize resources to educate people about why this movie is bogus.

Yes, indeed... let's not let people think for themselves. This is how the Church has maintained power for centuries.

I know no one in my little Missionary Baptist church is going to go see the movie!

Good idea, that gives them more time to burn books instead.

How is demonstrating that things like "The Priory of Sion" were made up by a French conman not letting "people think for themselves?"

The book and the movie claim that Christ survived the Crucifixtion and was not taken up into heaven. This would make Christ a liar, and is thus a direct assault on what we belive. Do we not have a right to point out that we frown on such things?

What exactly do you mean by "let's not let people think for themselves?" That's just a bunch of emotional rhetoric that doesn't actually mean anything in the context of this disucssion.

And that book burning bit was cute, too. Where did that come from? We're not talking about banning books. We're challenging the contents of a goofy movie. If that makes us "Just like Hitler," I guess you can put us in the same box as everyone else who has ever criticized the factual content of any piece of literature or performance art ever made.

(Warning - Cheap shot ahead)

I'm sure that includes your mom. :)
