Counting on victory in November, Democrats outline plans
Homeland security, a boost to the minimum wage and White House investigations top legislative agenda

WASHINGTON - Democratic leaders, increasingly confident they will seize control of the House in November, are laying plans for a legislative blitz during their first week in power that would raise the minimum wage, roll back parts of the Republican prescription drug law, implement homeland security measures and reinstate lapsed budget deficit controls.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, said last week that a Democratic House would launch a series of investigations of the Bush administration, beginning with the White House's first-term energy task force and probably including the use of intelligence in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. Pelosi denied Republican allegations that a Democratic House would move quickly to impeach President Bush. But, she said of the planned investigations, "You never know where it leads to."

In recent days, Democratic confidence has been buoyed by a series of polls indicating that not only is Bush growing increasingly unpopular, so are Republicans in Congress. An Associated Press-Ipsos poll released Friday found that 33 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, the lowest rating of his presidency. And only 25 percent approves of the job Congress is doing, a figure comparable to congressional approval ratings before the 1994 elections that swept Republicans to power.

The AP-Ipsos poll found that 51 percent of Americans say they want Democrats rather than Republicans to control Congress. Only 34 percent favor Republican control.

"We have to be ready to win," Pelosi said, "and we have to tell (voters) what we will do when we win."

The GOP is in serious trouble if they continue to let the Democrats control the agenda.
Impeachment and filibuster talk seems to crumble any GOP resolve. Also the border issue has to be addressed with more than election year proposals. We need solid votes. We need people who will take a stand rather than ride the fence of public opinion. We need to reassure congress that no job is secure if they continue to ignore the people of America.
My opinion of the Repuyblican controlled congress is very low backbone and they will indeed lose to Democrats. Their agenda is no more clearly defined than the oratorical misguidance of the Democrats because they make a stand for nothing except talk.

THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE IF WE DON'T USE THE POLL OF THE VOTE. The guaranteed status quo is re-election. See tagline.

Only one way they can make gains is if conservatives stay home on election day.

And even then, it'll be close.

Although you have many valid points... to lose in November could have much larger implications try imagining the worst case scenario... hopefully you don't sit home on 02NOV.

It doesn't matter the bottom line is they will continue to blame Bush... they have no solution to the problems... It is all Bush's fault... I think that will get them through two election cycles and blinded America will follow right along behind them...

Kind of putting the cart before the ass.

Frankly, I hope the Dems don't win in November. But we have to scare the GOP with the impending thought of being voted out if we the people are going to see any progress on every issue being talked about.
Immigration talk.
Energy talk.
Social Security talk.
Judicial selection talk.

People..... all the talk and proposals do not constitute a vote on any issue. Talk does not constitute action. We seem to forget that talk is all about what people want to hear.
Congress has been "talking" about the oil crisis since 1972 and the first OPEC embargo. Look where we are now.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed except we are importing double the oil and producing little more. We cannot hardly build power plants, mine coal, explore for gas and oil, place wind power off shore, build nuke power plants.........

Social security is more broke than ever and no fix has been voted upon.

Illegal immigration has become an invasion of law breakers forging documents for work and violating countless laws and where is the enforcement? Why should anyone get amnesty? Where is a vote for law enforcement?

The gang of 14 is still holding up judicial appointments although they "allowed" a couple of Supreme Court appointments. The filibuster word is frequently floated and it seems to scare Republicans. WHY???????

The solution is simple. Quit sending money to the GOP until they actually solve a crisis in leadership.
We cannot allow the promise of re-election as a guarantee that any problem will be solved......just give em more time.
The clock is ticking on my patience and so should it be on every other American who really cares about keeping America strong and sovergn.

Well .. raising the minimum wage is NOT GOOD FOR THE ECONOMY. It will cause layoffs in smaller businesses who cannot afford to pay those wages. If you have 10 minimum wagers in your company - you will have to let some go.

This is a no-brainer. And .. proves the dems have no brains.

The "culture of corruption" meme is, of course, the usual focus-grouped PR spin on the part of the media and the Donks.

Nothing new there. It's what the propagandists do. The problem is, however, that the Left is wont to take their little media constructions at face value.

They will get smashed again in November. Again.

For all of Bush's faults and wrong decisions(immigration), he does have a semblance of a backbone.

It was Condi Rice's job to make sure her President understood how the border was crumbling - not adhere to the politics as usual concerning V. Fox. She failed him and the US.

Bush does have backbone and he is a courageous leader in the face of the liberal smear and the obfuscations of everything he does. The last arrow in their rotting scabbard is a fraudulent attempt to impeach this honorable man...using monies from George Soros, ACLU, A.N.S.W.E.R. and other subversive communist fronts and using PAC money from Pelosi, Clinton, Conyers, etc. Everyone should try to expose this last attempt for the deception it is.
