Uh-oh: Republican voters might just stay home in November
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | May 7, 2006 | By Charlie Cook

There is growing evidence that Republicans will face a voter turnout problem in the November midterm elections.

The GOP faces not only enormous misgivings among voters about the war in Iraq -- which amounts to 70 or 80 percent of President Bush's problems -- but also a combination of Social Security, mounting budget deficits, Hurricane Katrina, Harriet Miers, port security, immigration, gasoline prices and various scandals. History tells us that when one party is either complacent or disillusioned -- and the other party is highly motivated, agitated or angry -- the results can be devastating to the former while providing boundless opportunities for the latter.

It is an unfortunate cycle, but all great nations have eventually crumbled on top of the sick politicians that lead them. Both Democrats and Republican leaders are sick, corrupted scoundrels. I will take a chance and vote third party, Independent or write-in. If anyone attempts to intimidate me by threatening me with triple sick Democrats rather than single sick Republicans, then I will threaten them back with, "The sooner this sick country falls, the sooner we can start climbing out of the rubble."

"There's an election every two years. Rewarding the GOP for their liberal ways is not really the answer. Booting them out of office for a term may just be that answer."

I'm sure we will be hearing this a lot in an attempt to get us to stay home. I hope your a troll because that is beyond stupid.

What freepers do is one thing, what general republicans do is quite another.. And republicans generally are beginning to see that Bush is a RINO.. its true that a good part of the republicans are RINOs also, you know, like John McLame.. but they all are not RINOs..

Its quite true that democrats are socialists and many republicans are socialist lite.. but socialists just the same.. Any who are looking for a capitalist free republic are in denial.. unless there is a revolution.. The commies have pretty much taken over.. both parties..

And on free republic you can cut the denial with a knife, its so thick.. The republican party has become commie-lite..

Booting them out of office for a term may just be that answer.

The problem with that line of logic is the House has been doing a pretty good job. The passed the Sennsenbrenner illegal bill (H.R.4437). The senate is where the rinos have taken over.

Same scare tactics from essentially the same people. They just hired on with the Pubs for this election.

Nope! It is difficult to be positive watching your country surrender to peons without firing a shot. Oh I forget the Republicans are the patriotic party that will defend us. (/s)

Not enough difference to think it would matter in the crucial votes.

Hmmm. Define "religious conservative". If this particular religious conservative wanted a Christian theocracy I wouldn't vote for him/her, either. RINO's and 'Rats treat big government like a Big Brother "theocracy" and that is what they have been voting for.

Medicare was not serving the seniors well at all.

Medicare reform should have been scaling back stupid stuff like kidney transplants for an 80 year olds and aggressive ICU stays that might prolong the life of a 90 year old by a few months and adding a huge prescription drug benefit even more generous than the one that passed.

Instead we got a half way prescription drug benefit and no cut backs for expensive procedures for people who are going to die soon anyway.

For me, any really expensive procedure for anyone over 90 should be paid for by the individual or their families, not medicare.

Medicare reform needed to be done with more emphasis on drugs and less on hospitals.

The GOP did the best they could in the face of democrat opposition.

Let me say that I expect the petro voters to vote for blackwell and if petro had won and the blackwell supporters stayed at home, then I would call them traitors for letting Strickland get in.

And yes, if petro had won and you stay at home and let strickland win, in my opinion, you are a traitor.

Is that clear enough.
