George W. Milhous Bush? - Is Dubya the new Nixon?

That cackling you're hearing comes from the chorus of Bush critics (an all-inclusive term that accounts for spittle-flecked bloggers and moderate liberal finger-waggers alike) giddy over Bush's basement-level poll numbers. Several bloggers have gone to the trouble of showing side-by-side charts of Bush's approval rating following close behind former President Richard Nixon's. At the end of the trail is the X-marks-the-spot treasure trove "Nixon resigns."

"At least we'll recognize Hillary as the enemy."

You should already recognize that she is.

AND, you should recognize that the group pouting is hurting this country.

Do you remember that Reagan actually RAISED taxes..THAT isn't very "conservative" of him is it??

How about the fact that even with the worst disaster on the USA proper, (9/11)..which was intended, by Bin Ladin, to ruin the USA financially...our economy is going great...better unemployment numbers than the 80's...and Bush had cut taxes across the board...

Bush never claimed to be Reagan, and it is about time you quit comparing him and blasting him for NOT being Reagan...

AND, if Bush had run during the Iran crisis, against Jimmy Carter, he would have had a cakewalk also..

I also did NOT claim that Reagan was lower in the polls than Bush..nor did I mention a length of time...so to tell me I am WRONG, when you post statistics that make MY CASE, is silly.

Amen.

Now you will drive many freepers crazy. One more thing, President Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrant, President Bush has never done anything like that.

"But, until Bush II, Democrats were the ones who got us into wars."

As I read history we started in Vietnam under Ike and each successor ramped it up, until Nixon started it down.

In the really big picture, our willingness to have a proxy shooting war with communism probably WAS worthwhile. Four Presidents thought so.

As for Bush II starting wars, I refer you to the history of islamic expansionist actions dating to 1972 or before. Worth (finally) engaging, IMO.

It would be a shame to see the right hand power to the left the way they did in Canada for 13 straight years of Liberal misrule. Politics is the art of the possible -- with a first-past-the-post systems only coalition parties can win power. Minor parties are more ideological -- but, they aren't playing to win.

The rest of the Repubs are worse. We should be attacking on energy issues, not trying to hide. We should be attacking on war issues, we should be attacking on border security. Those issues should be simple, clear, and clearly in our favor. No force on earth is more destructive of our energy infrastructure than the Democratic Party in all of its various mutations. No force on earth is more destructive and less competent on military security, no external enemy could do more damage to our intelligence capabilities than the DNC and its undercover operatives scattered throughout CIA.

But Repubs are hoping to slip back into office without a fight, hoping people will just intuit their positions without them having to actually declare and defend them.

Great post!

"I think paving the way for a Hillary presidency is STUPID...so sue me."

That's fine, but name-calling and such is the realm of lesser places like DU. You aren't going to convince anyone that you're right by dismissing someone else as "stupid". Thoughtful, intelligent responses tend to bring about more thoughtful, intelligent responses. The result is that we all gain from an intelligent discussion.

Otherwise, it's just a screaming match on the internet. And you know what they say about a screaming match on the internet: it's like the Special Olympics... even if you win, you're still retarded. :)

I think this is a very interesting article. Nixon is indeed much more liberal than history generally gives him credit for being; conversely, I could say the same of Bush.
