I don't think Reagan had a choice in who his VP would be. Just like Kennedy didn't choose LBJ.

Yea I've heard Paul Weyrich explain the VP vetting process. Pretty interesting. It becomes a matter of what percentage of the party will walk if X or Y gets chosen. JFK would be considered to conservative and unelectable by todays GOP standards for office. Sad isn't it?

We definitely need to change our standards for office. The alphabetical standard of R and D just doesn't get it.

JFK was conservative by todays standards. He gave us a tax break. The problem with a Kennedy is would he have remained conservative? I, quite honestly, think no. He would be much further to the left IMO.
