The Republican party is in disarray, but I can't understand those who just want to toss the whole thing and suffer through years of DUmmie victories to Teach A Lesson. (To who, the Republicans who will be thrown out and go on to lucrative private sector jobs?)

There is PLENTY of time to change this situation, and whining and "tossing them out" so the Dems get in isn't the way. The way is by pressuring our elected officials and pushing for conservatives to win primaries.

The party is in far better shape than the Dems because the changes we make as indicated by this piece will appeal to our base. The changes the Dems have to make to become a party of rationality would alienated so many of their hodgepodge coalition that it would shatter.

We can get our party back on track by working in that direction, not venting and howling. Just look at how far the Dems have to go to get on track, and you'll see how we are so much closer to re-energizing the party than they could ever be...unless they fake out the American public and get them to believe they're REALY moderates or even conservative, like Mrs. Family Values is attempting to do.

It's like this: no matter what you tell the Republican party, as soon as you say "but I'll support you in the election" you've told them to 'disregard all before'. Think of vote refusal as practicing 'tough love', or as 'shaping the platform in 2008'.

The Republic can survive Democrats in power for a while, it has before.

Well said.

A simple change like getting rid of earmarks could do wonders for the party.

>>>>>>>>>>>>...................
the calm reassuring Darkwolf, so full of mature political insight..while the basic facts are all against what you peddle (fear mongering about Demorat takeovers)..
The current group of GOP senate and house members have no perpetual right to their jobs..The GOP as a party has no ordained right to continue as a national party..Just as many in Gov hold the idea that the country must bend to their wishes rather than the congress reflecting the American public We have a group of Koolaid drinkers.
These purported elder GOP groupies see only danger in the removal of even the most leftist of the current GOP crop.
as a major disaster..
For you Darkwolf and all the Koolaid drinking Bushbots..our constitution does not mandate there be a GOP party and perhaps the GOP's time in power should be over
I am Confident in the Future of America, because America is the citizens not it's political parties..flush the GOP down the toilet if they do not support the goals that they give lip service to..This Nation will overcome such a loss, of that I have no doubt.

I agree in principle and in theory, but just what makes you think any real change is going to happen? In which direction have we been going for the last 6 years?

The "Republican" party has succumbed to the culture of RINOism and "moderation". Even the best of them have prostituted themselves to big government and big spending and pork.

I see no motivation for them to change. By their very actions they have demonstrated that they have had nothing but contempt for conservative values and ideals. We're all a bunch of "fringers" and "extremists" who they KNOW they can sucker into voting for them simply because we have convinced ourselves that 'Rats in power will be the end of the world.

But I'm no sucker. And I'm not afraid of "the end of the world".

ZZzzzzz; yeah sure, just like we did with Arnold in California. We will just be hearing the same garbage about selecting a "viable" (meaning globalist/socialist) candidate. The GOP is dead, its nominating process is as rotten as that of the Democratic Party's.
