The North Side of Pittsburgh is where the Rooney's were raised. It is not a GOP bastion.

The Rooneys are (fabulous)business people who recently convinced the taxpayers of Pennsylvania to build them a new stadium while a Republican Governor was in office.

They may throw a few bucks around to GOP politicians but the perception here is that they're loyal Democrats.

They may be more conservative than today's wackjob Dems (as are most Pittsburghers)but they're still old school Dems.

The Village Voice article was a misrepresentation. As far as General Hayden is concerned, the people who know and grew up with him love him as a person. He's a real Pittsburgh guy.

Personally, I think he'll be too nice of a fellow to clean house.

Totally agree on that perception from seeing him on the tube and other news. But reportedly he was a true "situational manager" at NSA: i.e., no favorites or loyalties when things went wrong - just did what had to be done in the bigger picture.

He's likely to be better than what we've had over the last 10 years as DCI.
