McKinney Backers: 'Double Standard?'
WXIA Website ^ | 5/5/2006 | Denis O'Hayer

Congressman Patrick Kennedy said he does not recall the accident, or the citations from the Capitol Police.

But a police union official charged senior officers ordered the patrol officers to leave the scene; blocked them from running field sobriety tests; and later gave Kennedy a ride home -- in the view of Fraternal Order of Police chapter president Lou Cannon, special treatment.

"It's not the normal course of action," he said. "I think that he was given consideration in regards to his position, and that he was afforded the opportunity to be taken home."

The Capitol Police issued a terse statement saying they are continuing to investigate.

But friends of Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney said they're watching.

Rainbow-PUSH Southern Director Joe Beasley is close to McKinney. He told 11Alive, "What we're very concerned about is a contradiction."

Beasley said he admires Patrick Kennedy. But he said Capitol Police appear to have responded in one way to Kennedy's accident; and in a different way when McKinney first walked past a security checkpoint on March 29 -- an incident in which the police charge McKinney struck an officer who challenged her.

Beasley said the Capitol Police turned a routine check into an "international incident" in the way they challenged McKinney at the checkpoint -- even before she responded.

"Congressman Patrick Kennedy said he does not recall the accident" ----

Cynthia should have said she had no recollection of her event.

The noise is about to arrive.

McKinney has an absolute point here. Why should Patches Kennedy walk?

Those Capitol Police are a riot.

No Field sobriety test that could prove Kennedy had no alcohol. There goes his last chance at credibility. And it could have been used to dispute the bar bill from that Capitol Hill watering hole, the Hawk 'n Dove, that has now surfaced.

Bet the cops were the same ones who detained McKinney. Now she's got to dig out that old bottle of Ambien to prove she was a sleepwaking slugger.

Maybe he walked because he didn't hit any of the police? Maybe they are more sympathetic to polite drunks than bitchy sober women.

"Anyone want to share?"

If Kennedy had hit a cop they would not have been so nice.

But the chickens are coming home to roost anyway.

I keep hearing that part of the story mentioned, but I can't get the details. I know the waitress told the Boston Herald he was drinking there, and a bartender at another bar claimed Kennedy was drinking that night too.

Where is the bar bill? Who has it?

This ought to be fun.

Am I remembering correctly? Wasn't Crazy Cyndi the one who nailed algore for his "Low Negro Tolerance Level"?

Gotta admit, she has her good points! Or maybe she's just unusually sensitive to Karl Rove's implants?

I believe if McKinney's incident would have been at 3 AM, they would have tried to cover up for her too.

If Kennedy had hit a cop they would not have been so nice.

Kennedy shoved around a black woman in that airport. Threw her like a rag doll. Roll that video tape baby and that's what you'll see.

And he got away with it!!!
