"Thank you Porter for your service to this country, and I am sincerely saddened that those such as you, who wish to protect this country, are routinely run out by politicos who have now infested every level and layer of our country. It is a sad day indeed."
I second this. Porter Goss had his challenges in the beginning with many people who were loyal to George Tenet ureluctant to give him a chance. As time went along, he began to win the loyalty of many who believed he would do some serious "housecleaning" without creating a bloodbath. He proved himself to be an excellent D/CIA. I can't imagine him quitting so suddenly, no serving out, and there's something yet to be revealed. I doubt it's something as simple as his not getting along with Negroponte. Goss is a professional. It will be interesting to see this play out.
An interesting point as Negroponte had 'planted' his feet as it were..........
A fine strategy for mainaining the status quo, but a terrible one for fixing the problems at the CIA. This administration has an obsession with the idea of 'surgical, bloodless' conflict, either in war or in government. There are entrenched and systemic problems at the CIA that won't be fixed without some kind of a purge.
I too am saddened to see Mr. Goss leaving. There is a butt..
If the Clintons did the housecleaning, then by God, Bush needed to do the same--all of it, pack it on heavy, every nook and crannie and let the media have their weeks and months of scrambling stories. Think: if all discharges happened very quickly media would know which story to pursue first.
Since Bush hasn't done this but placed Arlen Spector, tried for Harriet Myers, is weak on immigration, spent more money than any government, and turned over ports to Dubai, then to Hutchison Whampoa you have to wonder about the "political capitol" he is spending and who is getting knifed.
I hope it's something as simple as him running for Senate from FL. I tend not to believe, but at least I can hope!
