Cornell has a substantial interest in pure science and the methodology thereof. It wouldn't surprise me that they would include ID as a topic of classroom discussion for the purpose of learning more about teaching good science.

I concur. Teaching Intelligent Design is a very good means of illustrating good science by providing a clear case of a negative example.
