It's worse than you think! It's PEDAL (a foot operated device used to mechanically alter the condition or response of a machine) as opposed to PEDDLE (to sell, or cause to be sold < see advertising >).
Then again, PETAL is the outermost part of a flower, so you may not be all wrong, if the flower is a STINKHORN.
I finally got it right, I was having a brain spasm. It was late, I was not drinking and the concrete barrier jumped out in front of my mind and shattered my ability to spell pedal.
