George C. Cain
His Family Searched for Him in the Rubble
September 27, 2001
Firefighter George Cain was preparing to run the New York City marathon this fall. "He always kept himself in good condition. He was a skier, a golfer, a mountain climber. Most of all, he was a people person," said his mother, Rosemary, of Massapequa.
"There was nothing he wouldn't do to help people. He was the first one off the truck."
The World Trade Center alarm came minutes before Cain, 35, was to complete his shift with Ladder Co. 7 of Manhattan's Battalion 8. He was climbing the stairs in search of survivors when one of the towers collapsed.
His cousin, fire Lt. George Healy of Lynbrook, searched in the rubble for him every day in the days following the disaster.
Rosemary Cain said she's had an outpouring of supportive messages from neighbors of the 29th Street firehouse, who "all loved George."
She recently appeared on Fox TV news to talk about her son and other missing firefighters. "I needed to do something for my son, to let people know who he was," she said. When one firefighter is lost, she said, "we learn everything about him. But now there are so many, I'm afraid they'll just be names on a list. But each one had a different personality. Each had a family who loved him."
Born in Woodside, Queens, George Cain grew up in Massapequa and graduated from Massapequa High School in 1984. A firefighter for seven years, he loved the camaraderie of the firehouse. "I didn't worry when he went off to work because I know they look after each other," his mother said. --Rhoda Amon (Newsday)

The Judge has many good positions, but he has a few that I would not like to see on the Supreme Court. One is, I believe, that he thinks that terrorists are entitled to the same liberties and representation as other Americans. He has on occasion referred to 9/11 as a tragedy versus an act of war/terrorism.

OMG! The 9/11 families are having a presser on FNC and the lady speaking had to stop, because a plane was screeching over head. How poignant. I don't know about everyone else, but I will never be able to look at the sky the same way again. I look up every time I hear a plane. Not in fear, as I am an American and those Bastards don't scare me, but it does feel different.

Yes, I do the same....the memory that sticks out the most for me is the complete silence in the skies for several days. It was eerie not hearing the constant sounds of planes overhead.

Raster, your photo reminds us of some of the unmentioned horror of 9/11. Somehow, giving a terrorist life in prison, especially a US prison,, doesn't seem adequate punishment. If any US hostages are taken to barter for this guy's release, there should be no life sentences for terrorists, again until these terrorists are defeated.

We just have to get good advance warning as to when to post the thread. We have the makings of a good header, (thanks DollyCali) and dinasour and Honest Conservative are helping to set up some way for us to know. I suspect the first live briefing will be widely viewed. We'll just have to figure out. If ANYONE knows how to get ahold of Tony, if he could just have the Press Office announce WHEN the briefings are, it's possible we can catch them somewhere.
I am hopeful that you are right and Tony can do his "thing" with the Press corps...

Yes, except our local Air Guard had their planes up on patrol and every time I hear them I think, is it happening again? They are just practicing, but wow. It was such a clear beautiful day. I'll never forget it, ever.

It may take a few days, but he'll get back to us. I can read the laws, but the way things go through the courts and all is hard to follow. You never know when something is over turned and sent back and well you know, LOL I don't have access to Shepard's and even if I did I would not know where to start. I am not sure, I would have thought that we would have closed the loop holes for terrorists.
