The roofing industry in the Southwest is almost entirely illegals, as is the landscaping business

And you ask the owners of either of those businesses if they would be willing to replace those workers tomorrow with LEGAL immigrants from Mexico who have been waiting patiently for their papers, if those LEGAL workers could be at the job tomorrow, would they exchange them, and you'd see how quickly this whole situation could be solved. Law breakers should not be rewarded and those who are willing to do it right should be rewarded.

It really isn't straight hourly wages that has made most contractors technical lawbreakers in hiring illegals. It is the host of federal and state laws mandating high payments per worker for unemployment compensation, workers compensation, and in some states such as Maryland a host of disguised taxes masked as payments for various state welfare and environmental funds. If most contractors adhered to all the direct and indirect taxes levied by all the levels of government most would be out of business in short order. That is not a defense of the current invasion of damp Americans it is a statement as to how dysfunctional and corrupt our political culture has become.
