Los Angeles -- State Treasurer Phil Angelides accused Controller Steve Westly of inflating his accomplishments while Westly jabbed at Angelides' past as a developer during a debate Wednesday in the Democratic primary race for governor.
Angelides repeatedly challenged Westly's claim that he brought in $3.5 billion for the state through a tax amnesty program, saying some government figures showed it closer to $1 billion.
Westly countered with attacks on Angelides work as a real estate developer, hoping to undermine his credibility on the environment in their debate at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. He criticized Angelides for a development project that ran afoul of the federal Environmental Protection Agency for building on wetlands.
"My opponent is a real estate developer who has a questionable background on smart development growth, and I urge you to look at the projects he's done in California to see," Westly said.
Angelides explained the problem as an oversight.
"I am so proud of my business record," he said. "I was a pathbreaker in environmental responsibility."
Angelides, fresh from winning the state Democratic Party's endorsement, is trying energize his campaign. Polls show Westly with a double-digit lead, though half the likely voters in the June 6 primary have not yet made up their minds.

Can you say "Governor E-Bay???" (snort!)
They all sound like a bunch of kindergartners whining in the sandbox.

Jabberwokie!!! Right???

BTDT
Even with Westly's experience, he's an amateur compared to Gray Davis, who ran the State like it was his personal E-Bay.
Well, of course, but then again... Arnold has made Davis look like a piker!!!
