A draft of the document, obtained Monday by The Associated Press, provides little new information on government preparations.
So...$7.1 billion of our tax dollars are being spent on "a plan." I wonder where the money is really going? For half that much, I'll come up with a plan. I know of a couple good emergency planning web sites and where to get a great deal on tissues and Thera-flu. What a crock of snot. This is all about money is someone's pocket (and out of mine).
So if the flu is expected to cause 6 to 8 weeks of infection in each community and roll through the nation for a period of months, why do they expect that the 40% they think will take off from work will only do so for 2 weeks instead of the perceived duration?
I'm overjoyed that you're not in charge of The Plan.
Good for you. Get multi-vitamins too. You may not be eating as well as you normally do.
And. I've decided that if it goes H2H I'm not going to be bringing fresh vegetables into the house...it may have traces of bird poop on it.
I did my final hurricane/bird flu/war with Iran 'top-off' Monday during the boycott, lol.
The rub is the various medications I take to stay alive.
That's problem in our home as well. I've been reading up on various food, vitamins and minerals that can be taken in times where there is no way to get your medicine. Many Dr's will give you a 3-6 month supply of prescriptions, you just have to find them.
Our house, when it is finished in July will provide comfortable shelter, with power and a good water source for the entire clan.
My hubby has been doing a lot of remodeling around our home. Just encase. Our guest bedroom looks like a grocery and pharmacy store with a bed in it.
The part of the bug I don't like is the near 50% mortality rate for those who get it.
I can't discuss this topic with my son, it freaks him out. Terrorist, Nuclear, Bio, anything like that we discuss freely. There's something about a potential pandemic though.......
"I have extra food and water but just like Y2K, I feel it's a be prepared but not upset situation."
Me too. I keep six months worth of dried food plus water and a water filter. I think most of the hysteria is on the part of the government and MSM which seem to be doing everything they can to promote it.
We've been doing that as well. We've bought just about every over the counter medicine we thought we might need. The only thing we haven't gotten yet is a suture kit. But we will.
I've printed out info on Typhus, Dysentery and Cholera. I have almost an entire book printed out on various subjects.
LOL. I thought the same thing. I've already heard someone say that they worry that only one-half of the doctors and nurses will show up to work. Why would I expect truck drivers delivering food to the cities to do any better?
Hey, they've been saying for weeks that "you're own your own."
Good afternoon.
"I've been reading up on various food, vitamins and minerals that can be taken in times where there is no way to get your medicine."
Yup. My daughter is an herbalist, an MA, and a horticulturist. She is able to deal with the thought of a pandemic, but the thought of having to deal with the evils of mankind scares the pee out of her.
She won't even give a thought to learning to shoot, but the wife and I are deadly and the grandkid seems to be as well. I also have training and experience in trauma medicine. We'll do our best.
Good luck to all.

My ex is a genetics researcher (double Ph.D.) with the National Institute of Health. She believes the threat represents a real potential disaster.
Preparation is a favorite topic of mine, but a lot of people overlook the absolutely real possibility of a very bad recession, with widespread unemployment.
My advice is to try to catch up with your credit cards, and no matter how broke or poor you are, save some money.
Be prepared to pay your rent, and car payment if you lose your job, or have to take a lesser job.
I also would be home to protect my "castle" from the "civil unrest" predicted. I have started to arrange to install physical (including "botanical" and "landscape") enhancements and upgrade my array of firearms and related defensive modalities.
Such would enable me to provide aid in the form of safe food to friends and neighbors (who already know that "Mormons" store food, etc. for just such eventualities -- on my own orderly and efficient terms, as opposed to having my family and said food, etc. mau-maued by marauders. That is to say, nobody would be shot or otherwise affirmatively dealt with unnecessarily.
It would be interesting indeed to see some of my somewhat critical,self-righteous, and "more Christ-like" (as they perceive themselves to be) co-religionists seeking refuge in my family's fortified, well-stocked, and heavily-defended domicile.
The price of their admission to same, on a first-come-first-serve basis, would be to bring their stored food and assist me in sharing with my neighbors who do not have food to eat.
No, I'm not "holier-than-thou" myself -- I'm just following His Orders. As I promised I would on the day I was baptised and again when I enetered into covenants with the Savior in His holy temple years ago.....
With everybody and their brother wanting to destroy us and our country, I can understand her fear.

We are excellent shots as well. My hubby asked me the other day if I was really capable of killing another human being. My answer came without pause. Yes. My familys life comes before a criminal 'booter.'
I asked him why he asked me such a question, he answered, 'I just needed to hear it.'
oops. Sorry about the duplication.
Exactly. The usual suspects in the Driveby Media never miss a chance to get the folks all stirred up. Fear = Ratings = $$$. Y2K, anyone?
These are the same talking heads who like to slam the Bush administration for "fearmongering" in the GWOT. Hypocrites.
I believe that is their link on the site I posted. It's their food storage calculator.
Ironically, one of the biggest threats in the spread of bird flu is "free range" domestic flocks. They are exposed to wild birds that carry the virus and would like be among the first vectors.
Regular factory raised birds are kept in-doors, away from contact with wild birds.
BTW, at this time, 3m N-100 and masks with vapor filters are very available and not too expensive. Probably a good idea to stash a few away. P-100's are the disposible kind and are very cheap, though only for temporary use.
