"The CA/GOP leadership, appointed by Carl Rove, torpedoed the GOP conservative nominee"
Karl has done a lot to damage political conservatism. Remember the expression, "it takes a Repubican."
That's how you spot the trolls here.
NONONO!!!
I was saying that if a repub pair wins in 2008, it would be 2016 when the next pair would be up for election.
"Third, for Blackwell to win he WILL need the RINOS to vote for him. So if some voters believe themselves to be conservatives, and want to support Blackwell but have misgivings, calling them names or calling the stupid isn't likely to be a winning strategy."
Voters are not RINOs. Not many, anyways. Non-conservatives have voted for conservative pols in the past, the less worse option. And that's fine.
What a RINO is, let's be clear, is a type of politician. Someone who uses the political capital built up by "conservative" grassroots support, by vitue of being a Republican.
You are right, of course. A lot of folks at home will vote for him, though, just because they think he might bring jobs to so. Ohio.....
Excellent!
Their edging out talk is an effort by the author ( apparently a Democrat ) to marginize the victory.
Ten percent is not edging out. One percent would be edging out.
Republicans targeted the House seat Strickland leaves open as one of its best shots nationally to gain a Democratic congressional spot.
Out of your lips into God's ear!
let's win the Nov. 2 nd election!!!
My mistake, too.
"the date of the election...Nov. 7th...it's a Tuesday!!! "
We are making progress !
This is going to be an INTERESTING election.........to say the least!
Taking it personally? If the shoe fits-- put 'em both on. If it doesn't then who cares? Petro was a last ditch loser, Ohio's Bob Dole. And those who would spurn Blackwell because he said some negative things in a campaign--why how shocking. </p>
It wasn't really the negative things Blackwell said in the campaign that I was talking about.
It was the personal attacks in this forum on Petro supporters that I was talking about.
You don't win elections by attacking people who don't yet support your candidate.
Politics has gotten way to personal, even regarding the candidates themselves. But now we are targetting the voters for personal attacks.
And yes, questioning people's intelligence, their motives, and thier loyalties based on which Republican they supported in a primary is a personal attack.
I am certain Blackwell's campaign won't be calling Petro supporters names.
You know, Petro was a decent christian man, who did a good job in his current position in government, and largely supports what conservatives want to do. He wasn't a perfect candidate, and yes he was more "liberal" than Blackwell, but probably not as "liberal" as DeWine.
His record in public service was a good reason for conservatives to choose him as their next governor. So while Blackwell may be the Best Choice for governor, I reject the notion that Petro was evil incarnate, or that those who supported him are all crooked, evil people who either hate conservatives or are too stupid to know better.
Well, you are right, there may have never been one. I don't know. But I think it would be good for the Republican Party to have one or some black governors that are Republicans.
Fair enough. My comment applied to Petro voters who "had their nose out of joint" and intended to stay home rather than unite around Blackwell. If you don't fit that picture, then my characterization doesn't apply to you. If you did indeed have your nose out of joint and intended to stay home in November, then maybe it would. I don't think I made any personal attacks on petro voters per se but if I did I apologize. If others did they can answer for themselves.
Agreed. I can't think of one in either party. Maybe back in Reconstruction. Time for the GOP to break the color line in the Statehouses of the United States.
If I were in a room of Petro Voters, I would tell every one of them to put aside their differences and rally around Blackwell.
