Anyone that straps their ass in a jet fighter has my respect (or for that matter, stares the enemy down from the sights of an M16).
That he would have gone to Vietnam is just gravy.

It wasn't flying experience he was lacking but rather his flight training was for a plane that was discontinued during the Vietnam war. His expertise was not needed.
