Did you know that before becoming president McKinnley fought in the apache indian wars as an officer there?

His name is still carved into the fireplace stones at faraway ranch in chiricahua

see chiricahua national monument

The Loop Trail (3.3 miles) was highlighted as one of the 10 best in the state in this month's issue of Arizona Highways.

Not to be confused with the Grand Canyon's North Rim.

The North Rim is COOL!!

We rented a 4WD and navigated the Fire Roads to camp about 10 feet from the edge. It was AWESOME. (And COLD!!!) We saw places called "Quaking Aspens" and "Fire Point." BEAUTIFUL!!!

The stones are carved with troop names.
They had been used in the construction of a small stone fort to fight the indians from.

Later the the Erikkson family used some of the carved the stones to construct the fireplace at faraway ranch. The original fort lies within the walls of the ranchhouse to this day
