A well-known government-watchdog group will ask the Justice Department today to investigate U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris' dealings with a now disgraced defense contractor accused of bribery.
Common Cause wants to know whether Harris broke the law when she and Mitchell Wade met at an exclusive Georgetown restaurant in early 2005. At that dinner -- which cost Wade up to $2,800 -- Wade offered to hold a fundraiser for Harris and sought her help obtaining $10 million in federal money.
Common Cause's director of ethics campaigns said there is sufficient evidence to suggest Harris submitted the appropriations request in exchange for Wade's fundraising support.

The dinner took place at Citronelle, one of the most exclusive restaurants in Washington, D.C., in early 2005. Harris and Wade discussed organizing a fundraiser for Harris, and Wade -- whose company gave Harris $50,000 in campaign contributions in 2004 -- asked her to support his request for $10 million to establish a counterintelligence facility in Sarasota.
A few weeks later, Harris sent that request to a House appropriations subcommittee.

Harris has said she supported Wade's project only because she "thought it would bring new jobs to Sarasota." She said she "never requested funding...exchange for any contributions..."

In July, she said she wasn't sure why Wade and his company had contributed so generously to her 2004 campaign. She told The Tampa Tribune she knew little of Wade's Sarasota project and had done nothing to support it.
That was three months after she had asked the defense appropriations committee to give Wade's project $10 million in federal money.

"Surrusco said the group has not filed a complaint with the Justice Department "in many years." More typically, it will appeal to congressional ethics committees."
Mercy.
Must have been the Ch. Haut Brion '45 that put them over the top.
Another DU. atempt to knock Harris .They are more scared then I thought of Harris.

Oh, I don't think they're too scared of her; I think they've had enough of the graft.
Your funny.
I do not know what to make of this !
They want Rep Harris investigated over a dinner with a lobbiest ?
Are they investigating her meeting with him or the fact he provided her with an expensive meal ?
If it is the latter, then it is another Liberal Witch-hunt by Liberal-Lefties !
We Conservatives must not allow them to get away with this !
Or they will bully us around with investigations and harass threats to do scuh for the rest of eternity !
This has to be stopped, when are we going to spill some of their blood ?
