Shah of Iran's Heir Plans Overthrow of Regime

Reza Pahlavi, son of the late Shah of Iran, told the editors of HUMAN EVENTS last week that in the next two to three months he hopes to finalize the organization of a movement aimed at overthrowing the Islamic regime in Tehran and replacing it with a democratic government.

He believes the cause is urgent because of the prospect that Iran may soon develop a nuclear weapon or the U.S. may use military force to preempt that. He hopes to offer a way out of this dilemma: a revolution sparked by massive civil disobedience in which the masses in the streets are backed by elements of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, said he has been in contact with elements of the Revolutionary Guard that would be willing to play such a role, and activists who could help spark the civil disobedience.

He also said that the U.S. and other governments can help by imposing “smart sanctions” on the leaders of Iranian regime, but he categorically opposes U.S. military intervention.

After the revolution he envisions, Pahlavi said, he would be willing to become a constitutional monarch in Iran if an Iranian constitutional convention offered him that role. “I’m ready to serve in that capacity,” he said. “If the people so choose, it would be my greatest honor.”

The junior "shah' i believe has visions of self grandeur like his father.
Ain't gonna happen even if a vast majority of the iranian fools would like it to.

The situation in Iran is all that craven idiot Jimmy Carter's fault. This guy would be the Shah by now. He was educated in America and loves our country. He would be a steadfast ally and we wouldn't have to be asking the Israelis to take out Iran's nukes. And don't whine to me about Mossadeg. Back in the 50s, we did what we had to do for the long term benefit of our country. Carter undid all of that in six months.

Is this the guy who lived in Lubbock for a while in the mid to late 70s when he was in flight training at Reese AFB? I was but a child then, so I'm not sure.

Yes he was. I found this when I searched for his biography

I was just wondering last month
when that family was going to
jump back into the political
scene. It doesn't take a
rocket scientist IQ to figure
out that the newly elected
President doesn't have the
wherewithal mentally or
emotionally to win the hearts
of the people who elected him.
They've had time to see the
error of their votes. It
wouldn't surprise me if
several of those nations over
there revert to a monarchy...
a Contitutional one like the
UK has.

PS: I think 1978 was around the same time George W Bush first ran in Lubbock for Congress and lost. Small world, but all centered around Lubbock, eh?

If nothing else, it would give the lunatic butchers a target other than Americans.

I remember young Reza Pahlavi as a boy living in Potomac Maryland.

I cannot believe he has designs on returning. And I'm wondering why the US would sponsor or sanction it.

We just got rid of a malevolent one next door in Iraq. We're supposed to be introducing democracy in the region.

I was definitely there then, but don't recall a thing about GB running for office. Now you have me curious why I can't recall that.

He ran for Congress against Kent Hance and lost. The seat later was inherited by Larry Combest and now Randy Neagebauer.

If the terrorist's best friend Jimmy Carter had intervened to support his father the Shah, this would have been nipped in the bud.

The lack of American support for the Shah's government, and passively sitting it out while the Ayatollahs took power in Iran is the root cause for the rise of Islamist extremism and the terrorism that goes with it.

Thank you Jimmy Carter, the worst American president.
Thank you Bill Clinton, not far behind.

I remember when his father was still married to Soraya, when he divorced her and then married Farah Diba, Reza's mother

Does he really think it is a good idea to call reporters and announce his plans for a take over?

How about Ann Claire Van Shaick Pahlavi takes over? She claims to be an Iranian princess, and I doubt she's done much of anything since her show's cancellation. LOL

Wouldn't this beat everything? A Shah of Iran Heir helps overthrow Iran's current regime. Jimmy Carter is probably upping his meds.

Gee. Do you think it is wise to announce the overthrow of a government in advance? Doesn't seem too smart to me.
