No problem. Let's just dish out some more IOUs, so the trust fund lasts until the year 3583.

And to pay for it, we can just "raise taxes on the rich." After all, their money will never run out, so we can tax them at 100% and pay off everyone's Social Security and Medicare benefits!

Let's create a new entitlement program while we're at it. We can put Paul Krugman in charge.

I guess those treasury bills are not such a good investment afterall.

Adding 11 million illegal aliens to the ranks of our citizenry is not going to help this situation. If you lose money on each retiree, you don't make it up on volume--particularly when the retirees in question don't pay much in taxes, but get sweetened benefits because they are poor.

Even members of his own party refused to support the benefit cuts that would have accompanied the establishment of private accounts for younger workers.

Cowards.

Are SS benefits tied to inflation because if not we should just let the benefits not increase so in 40 years people are still getting 400 dollars but that wouldn't buy them a dinner at Outback.

What "trust fund" - do they mean the IOUs that were tacked on to the National Debt that we'll have to pay to "unlock"?

Thank goodness the Dems stopped SS reform in its tracks (as they so loudly applauded during the State of the Union)

Welcome to socialized medicine, folks!

All around the world, it is the largest blackhole, "sucking sound" consumer of government resources anywhere, even with the shameless age based rationing of care used overseas. While quality is sometimes decent overall, there is no question that government run medical programs become political footballs and spending in them continues to dwarf all other programs in out of control growth.

Keep in mind, the US healthcare system is already funding 60% by the goverment; a percentage that is rapidly growing. Naturally, the socialist solution to this is to take over the remaining 40% so that they can "solve all the problems."

Last month, I paid a bundle into Medicare. I would prefer to retain and invest that money. I'm certain that I could pay for much better and more secure care in my retirement with those funds.

Expand HSA's and support SB 155.

They are doing their best to deplete SS and Medicare by immediately doling out to the invaders, who are taking the day off today. If this isn't planned obsolesence I'll eat my sombrero!

People need to be reminded again-- There is no money in the SS fund, there are only IOU'S due to the fact that our elected officals have stolen the money instead of wisely investing it. Oh wait our elected officals and the word wisely cannot be linked togeather. Enough said, sigh.

You mean that someone broke into the "lockbox" and stole some funds.
