May Day originated in the U.S., specifically Chicago, as a commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886.
The riot revolved around the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions demanding an eight-hour work day.
Because of its leftist overtones, the May Day celebration was later endorsed by socialist, communist and anarchist groups.
The Soviet Unions co-opting of the holiday and the subsequent Red Scare in the United States ended up with the U.S. distancing itself from May Day.
The U.S. later established a different date in September with which to celebrate the efforts of the American worker. Its called Labor Day.

This might explain the connection between May Day and labor but the day itself is an old pagan holiday celebrating spring, ferrtility etc; dance around the maypole - phallic symbols anyone ?
If they were going to march, why not Cinco De Mayo?

Japanese: 800-339-2865
Viet ngu/Vietnamese: 800-339-8163
Tagalog/Tagalog: 800-339-2957

It would spill the Margarita's...
The reason it's not Cinco de Mayo is that the occasion is organized by international communists and they wanted it on THEIR day, not the day of some stinking Mexican kulaks!
