I got the impression from your post that you thought the Church -as a whole- was a supporter of communism.
I think if you read more about JPII, and the Church's stance towards communism you would see there has always been and always will be great resistance from the Church towards communism.
By "Church" I mean the pope together with the Magisterium as a whole.
Mahoney is one cardinal - one small part of the Magisterium. He does not represent the Magisterium, and he has often supported the "wrong" side of many issues...meaning - he has gone against Church teaching.
If you do a google search on other cardinals, say, like ....Arinze - you will see a cardinal faithful to the teachings of the teacher.
Even Jesus had to deal with Judas.
Thank you. I just think that people of the church like Cardinal Mahoney should be recalled to the Vatican and fired or reassigned to Venezuela, Communist China, or Iraq.
