The entire Gyllenhaal family is overrated. I made the mistake of wasting two hours on
Donnie Darko, curious after reading time and time again that it was a masterpiece that was overlooked because it involves a plane crash and was released after 9/11. It was not "overlooked" -- it was ignored because it's an incomprehensible mess disguised as artsy-fartsy intellectualism.
By the way, as an actor, he sucks. He's not Hayden Christiansen bad, but he's Tobey Maguire bad.

He's at least as bad as Maguire (and thank God someone other than me noticed that Maguire is a truly mediocre talent--I've seen better performances come out of the Diet Coke can on my desk) but I think Christiansen is a bit more maligned than he would otherwise be thanks to Lucas' complete inability to write.
