Nice. Investing in Deep Blue Marine is about as wise as investing in the radio station Air America. Somebody's making some quick money but it ain't you!

But what does Morgan Stanley have to do with your comment?

Maybe you meant MSFT?

I think he was referring to their long-term future prospects. The PC as we know it has basically tapped out its functionality for the types of things people use them for day-in/day-out (such as hanging out at FR). Bringing out succcesively more complicated, albeit more 'functional', applications for the same old thing is not a wise course.

We have no idea where the next leap in technology will take us; suffice it to state however, that MS has already demonstrated weaknesses in competing with the likes Google in some newer markets.

MS was a great company that had (has) great products at the right time for a system that became critical to the world economy. They've had a 25 year run - that in itself is a really long time. How long did Ford, GM, Xerox, IBM, et al dominate during their respective eras until markets shifted and/or whole new markets were developed?

Great, but how about $2 of fertilizer in a $25 wrapper!

Thanks for the TIE tip. I just got some new polaroid fishing glasses with Titanium frame. Some fly rod manufactures are putting Titanium in with the graphite to make lighter and stronger fly rods.

After China equalizes, this may be a good investment.

Thanks for the correction.

MSFT may not be that good after all.

Thanks. This is prime example of why I never make stock buys or trades until after noon or at least two big cups of coffee in my system.

Who knows? Reminds me of the old Shadow commercials.

What is the % of people who still don't have a computer at home?

Or like our Son and his wife. They have one at home, he has a portable and several at his office.

Their daughter will be 7 next month, and she is starting to use the Word Processor on the home computer. Her 5 year old brother loves to play games on the home computer.

Our DIL uses a computer for her part time business, and she has some battles with both kids over computer time. So they are trying to decide what to buy our grand daughter, a portable or a stand alone. They anticipated this when they bought their new home a little over 2 years ago. They had the builder install a computer workspace with a desk, phone line and lights in a nook in the hallway between the kid's bedrooms. The computer time for our Grand Daughter will probably increase when she goes into the second grade and will be in some accelerated program for the top kids.

I will probably buy a new computer this fall after school as my current one is about 4 years old. My ludite wife has actually suggested a portable for our vacations for emails, investments and to log on FR to keep up with what is happening. This comes from a woman who likes vacation reservations in places with no tv, radios or phone lines.

All you have to say is James Brolin and Barbra Streisand.

Replace "mainframe" with "Google"

I was thinking even more radically. For instance, there have been reports that sales of watches are declining among younger genaration because they are used to getting the time from their cell phones.

Clearly, mobile is where the action is going. The next stage will be some type of medical/scientific discovery that maps our brain frequencies. Once that is established, then the small video/audio capabilities will become moot - we'll be hard wired.

Or technology could go off on some tangent that even futurists haven't considered. The point is is that MS had a lock on an O/S which was used to leverage applications for a device that grew to become the primary driver of our economy over the last 20 years.

They will never be able to repeat that feat in new markets.

Boggle

I always wondered why he lasted as long as he did, he never had positive things to say just all bashing.

If the Economic Numbers (unemployment, GDP, Stock Market, etc.) would show a down turn he would use it as proof that Bush was bad for America.

If those same economic numbers showed an up turn he would bash Bush for manipulating the Data and claim it was all a fix.

Now if we can get the Immigrant Nazis booted things will get back to normal around here. (Immigrant Nazis = people who just hate people who are of a different country who come here for a better life as opposed to those of us who want to FIX the problem of illegals crossing the border with logical fixes rather than emotional bull crap)
