There have been published reports about people stopped at the Mexican border and a NYC subway station because they set off radiation detectors - from drinking barium for a medical procedure.

There was also the huge "scandal" that the FBI was taking radiation detecting equipment around to Islamic sites.

Given that nuclear radiation is that detectable, and that we're looking for it, it would be an enormous risk for Al Qaida to leave smuggled weapons unused in the U.S.

They've had plenty of excuses to use them. Each Iraqi election was another line in the sand. Each anniversary of 9/11, each anniversary of OIF, each anniversary of the Taliban overthrow, the Olympics in Utah and Greece, etc.

Since 911. What if they were smuggled in before? What if they were walked across the border in the desert somewhere? What if they are sitting in a garage in Duluth?

Advocating that nukes *could not get across the border* is simply putting your head in the sand.
