And what better reason to attack than to save the 40,000 POW hostages the Russians took.
The number of airplanes the Americans had in the European theater is the relevant factor. Most of ours were in the Pacfic. We produced about twice what the Soviets did during that period.
More important than the lack of political will for such an invasion was the lack of a political REASON to do so.
Patton had no reason to know the details of Soviet power and likely no one did outside the Kremlin. It is only decades later that such details emerge. But it matters not since any idea of invading our ally at that time is nothing but foolishness. It could NEVER have happened.
The US would not have even entered WWII but for a surprise attack and the Nazi declaration of war. Roosevelt had to use every trick in the book just to aid Britain. If a president who was almost worshipped couldn't bring America into this war how the hell could a president who was not even elected do so against an ALLY?
