What exactly would offend you about a corporation building a transportation system for profit and to the vast benefit of the user? Would it impede on your right to drive like a lunatic, perhaps?
A corporation will do just that when it comes to pass that there actually is a reasonable prospect of profit in the venture. The fact that it is not being done is ipso facto evidence that it would require the consumption of greater resources than the present system, i.e. would be less efficient and more expensive (a tautology, I know).
