Trial for PM 'assassin'
Turned down contract on Martin, man now faces drugs and weapons charges

By IAN MCDOUGALL, COURTS BUREAU
BRAMPTON -- The man who said he turned down a $300,000 assassination contract on then-prime minister Paul Martin has lost his bid to get drugs and weapons charges tossed out of court.
Justice Jack Bellegham dismissed Vincent Brown's abuse of process application yesterday.
"I find on the evidence that there was never any agreement not to prosecute," Bellegham said.
Brown had sought the application because he claimed the RCMP broke a promise to dismiss the charges in exchange for information about an alleged 2003 plot to kill Martin.
Brown said outside court he's planning to appeal.
" wasn't surprised," he said of Bellegham's decision.
Brown, 43, testified during the hearing that Augustine D'Souza, a former Liberal party official, offered him $300,000 in December 2002 to assassinate Martin.
Brown testified that he believed D'Souza set him up for the weapons charge when he turned down the contract on Martin.
Brown was given a lie-detector test by police when he told them about the plot. He passed the polygraph and the RCMP beefed up Martin's security detachment.
Several RCMP and Toronto Police officers testified at the abuse of process hearing but none could recall offering Brown immunity from prosecution.
Some officers said the decision to grant immunity would be up to the Crown's office, not them.
Brown is expected to go to trial on May 16.

I'm not exactly certain, beyond the Judge, who is supposed to be who?
(actually, with a black guy & another wearing a turban, it could represent virtually any Trial in Brampton!)
Canada is a secretive state.
Its MSM is more centralized than ours, and locked into the power elites tighter.
Why is it that I have this impression that the Liberal Party had become a sort of shady organisation before it was thrown out of office?
That is the first I have heard of it.
It certainly sounds like REALLY big news.
I think the goofy G&M has their headline today on how Ontario is getting screwed by finally dividing up the billions of consumer dollars held in escrow over the softwood "trials".-sarc-
I have seen the movie over and over.
Godfather II is also a really good movie.
The last time I watched them with the subtitles on and finally understood what was being said and I am one quarter Italian and my great gramma lived to be 99 and never spoke English very well so I grew up with some exposure to the language.
I find subtitles help while watching British productions too. lol
As for the allegations in this court case, they are incredible.
And about the disinterest of the press, fugidabowdit, is a fugazzi. (not real)
Thanks GMMAC, but I almost choked laughing on your applying it to the "family" court. IMHO, that is unquestionably one absolutely perfect sound clip.
