there are tons of "Cafeteria Catholics" who pick and choose what they want to believe from their faith. just because not all Catholics believe it, doesn't mean it is not a valid tenet of faith. Those who don't believe are really better served by choosing a faith that is more in line with their belief system. i would defend anyone who is refusing to perform a procedure based on a principle of religious faith, and as has been pointed out, the slippery slope in the other direction (forcing those with beliefs to compromise them, by force of law) is much more troublesome to me. one can find PLENTY of docs to perform whatever one wants done, no need to force anyone to go against their conscience, to get what one wants.
A la carte religion... it isn't just for Catholics anymore! I know so many Christians who are the same way.
