The last time Iran tried to block the Straits it cost them almost their entire Navy inside of a week.

Even with the recently installed Silkworm sites along Irans coast I think the outcome would be pretty much the same. We'll just put all the tankers passing through the Straits under the US flag and dare Iran to start a war.

If they shoot at US flagged ships then they're fair game for everything the US Navy can unleash on them.

In the runup to our confrontation with Iran you will read a dozen stories from all of the usual MSM suspects. They will all intone, without actually saying, Iran can stop the whole world flow of oil. They will also try to dig up some ex-military people, Generals are preferred, to say Iran can block the Straits of Hormuz.

They will not, however, find anyone to say differently. Then the polls will come out asking "Considering that some military experts predict that we may not get any oil at all, do you support the Presidents decision to attack Iran?".

Then the selfsame MSM members who began the lie will trumpet the results.

Its how they work and its disgusting. Imagine for a moment if they put half the effort into supporting the President that they do into looking for the next gotcha moment. How nice would that be?

"The Holy Prophet Exercise"

I have heard some gay exercise names in my day, but that is definitely the gayest by far.

Additionally, whenever you hear about technology being employed by countries from the Middle East with the exception of Israel, you only need to pay serious attention if their Russian "advisers" are going to be on site to employ it. If not, you need not worry because they will be either too scared or too ignorant to operate it.

The evil General Salami (real name, no kidding) says otherwise (what a shock).......

"Iran can block oil export whenever necessary," IRGC Air Force commander Gen. Hosein Salami said. "This is a natural ability of our country." In a television interview, Salami said Iran controls 2,000 kilometers of the coast of the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman. He said Teheran has developed a long-range missile capability that could be employed to protect Iranian interests in the region.

I cannot believe we are even talking about this stuff. The very second those idiots develop a working nuke, they will light it off, and all this discussion about oil, Hormuz, Bush and on and on will be moot.

We are continuing to play right into their plan; we talk and they hide, lie, develop and shoot.

"Iran controls 2,000 kilometers of the coast of the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman"

I know nothing about this sort of operation except that I have read that Iran has heavily mined their waters and are prepared to physically block the Straits of Hormuz, thru sinking ships, etc, and they wouldn't need to take direct shots at US ships with silkworms, etc.

Iran doesn't have to militarily block the Strait, just the threat to try will have insurance companies world-wide pull coverage for vessels entering there.

Nothing new some of us had not made perfectly clear with many long winded examples to prove the point earlier on. But fine.
For once the CISI, seems to get it.

I kept trying to tell Travis McGee that Iran couldn't possibly disrupt shipping traffic in the strait for more than 30 days (at most). Maybe now he'll believe me, but somehow I doubt it.

Mines could really make transiting the Straits a hassle for a while, but Iran closing the Straits of Homuz down, I don't think so.
