My grandparents, "z,t", had a custom. When they heard that someone had lost a close relative, the would wish them a "Long Life". The rationale was that, at the time of the loved one's passing, it is appropriate to wish that their surviving close relatives be inscribed for a Good Life, as we wish on Rosh Hashanah.
And so, I have no idea when your Dad went to Gan Eden, but I wish you "Long Life", my friend.
