Dolphins running back Ricky Williams lost his appeal of a fourth violation of the NFL substance-abuse policy and will be suspended for one year, a source said told the Miami Herald on Tuesday evening.
Williams was informed by the NFL on Tuesday. He had appealed the violation, which occurred in late December, to the league on April 10. Attorney David Cornwell had expressed hope after the appeal that the league would rule in Williams' favor.
That hope was based on the fact that Williams did not test positive for marijuana, the substance he had tested positive for on three previous occasions. The substance he tested positive for is unknown, but agent Leigh Steinberg has hinted that it was an ''upper'' and a drug not in keeping with Williams' personality.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed the news, meaning Williams will miss the entire 2006 season -- including the playoffs. He can apply for reinstatement after that.

What a waste. Real talent gone to waste.
I think Ricky may have a few more chances if my memory serves me?
He is definitely in the running for the Bam Morris award.
Who was the pitcher with drug problems? Steve Howe?
Every pick the Saints had to get this kid. Ah well, Williams might as well take his non-refundable signing bonus millions and call it a career. Not a bad life for some.
Yeah, pitcher Steve Howe was suspended a number of times and always kept getting chances. It was so many that he was referenced in a Naked Gun movie...
"Williams might as well take his non-refundable signing bonus millions and call it a career. Not a bad life for some."
The problem with that, is he owes the Dolphins money. Somewhere around $8 million!
Mr. Williams, meet
Miss Moss. Miss Moss, say hello
to Mr. Williams . . .
Great defense. "The coke that my guy popped positive for shouldn't count against him. He's a marijuana kind of guy, not 'uppers'."
I think Howe got suspended eight or nine times, some crazy number like that. If I'm not mistaken, if Ricky tests positive for the tree again, he's gone from the NFL for good...not that he probably isn't anyway.
Another case of amazing natural talent gone to waste--a million-dollar body and a five-cent brain.

Might want to ping this one to the Rome list, you know Jim'll be talking about it tomorrow.

".......but agent Leigh Steinberg has hinted that it was an ''upper'' and a drug not in keeping with Williams' personality."
As opposed to all the other drugs this hack has taken over the years that do keep with his personality.
Ban him for life, oh and how about arresting him for drugs too.
1 year ban, please....
OJ is still collecting a pension for Christs sake.
I wouldn't hire this waste to cut my grass!
He might smoke it. ;-)
There's a Rome list? Is he going to Sat radio?
