If they'd had a pair of working synapses among the whole lot of 'em, they'd have made nice-nice with Israel a long time ago -- for real -- and worked together to make that region into a little bit of heaven on earth.
Of course, if the "clue gene" had worked its way around the Arab world in general, they'd have all made nice-nice with Israel a long time ago -- and combined, they'd have owned the world!
Can you imagine the incredible muscle of a "united middle east" with the petro-wealth, manpower, real estate, sea access, and brainpower represented by all parties, IF they'd have stopped fighting?
As long as the Arabs are motivated by a "prime directive" that boils down to "Kill the Jews!", that region is going to be a mess. (And for the purposes of this discussion I lump the Iranians in with "the Arabs", whether they like it or not!)

Agree generally with your post, except for the above. Unfortunately, it's worse than that; the "prime directive" seems to boil down to "Convert or Kill the Unbeliever!"
