Oil, Gas Prices Drop on Bush Supply Move
AP ^ | 4-25-06 | AP

Posted on 04/25/2006 2:40:18 PM PDT by keithtoo

Crude oil and gasoline futures fell Tuesday after President Bush gave the Environmental Protection Agency the authority to relax regional clean-fuel standards to attract more imports of gasoline to the United States and to make it easier for supplies to be moved from one state to another. President Bush also said he would halt deposits of oil to the nation's strategic petroleum reserve until the fall, but analysts said that measure would have next to no impact on crude prices and certainly would not help make gasoline any cheaper. Even the fuel-specification waivers will have a marginal impact, analysts said, given that the main force behind today's soaring pump prices is the near-record price of crude oil.

Thank you. At least some of us understand the complexity and dynamics of the petroleum industry.

One guy around here thought the petroleum industry is no different from Pizza Hut competing with Pappa Johns.

A 42 gallon barrel of oil costing $75/bbl is about $1.78/gallon of crude. The refining process does not yield 42 gallons of gasoline and uses some of the energy in the crude for heat to run the process. It is easy to see that the cost of the crude in a gallon of gas is greater than $1.80 or more than 60% of the retail price at $3.00 per gallon.

"Easy to throw an accusation isn't it? Sort of a verbal molotov cocktail."

Given Bush's behavior about avoiding investigation, failure to explain price increases, and his authorization now of an "investigation" I think my analysis has merit.

"Maybe the Libs who shut down busnesses, and destroy refinery capacity, drilling in proved reserves and make enemies out of one-time friends like Iran would have more compassion for us.

I agree about the reserves but the refiners have no interest in new capacity. That would cut their profits. Does not make business sense. As for Iran, I blame the Iranians.

"Oops, John Kerry advocates 5.00/gal. gasoline."

I'm shocked he advocates anything. Hard to tell with him often.

Great News!
I’m down to only about 1/3 of a tank, so I need to fill up in the next week. This should drop the price maybe as much as two cents a gallon!

I'm making deliveries tomorrow. I'll fill up twice.

I am at the point where I want to scream at the next Islamist I see -

I don't care about your religion.

I don't care if you're offended.

I don't care about your grievances against Israel. If you'd spouted half the crap at me that your people have spouted at Israel, I'd have nuked you a long time ago.

If you try to tell me what God to worship, I in turn will want to take the nearest shotgun and use it to blow the back of your head off.

If you try and kill me or my fellow citizens, again, time to eat buckshot, you camel shagger.

If you go on television and complain how awful we are, again, time for a dose of lead, followed by drowning your remains in pig fat.

Now shut up and go away.

Regards, Ivan

The people need to demand that the government authorize 10 new refineries and open all viable oil fields. If they happen to find oil in my back yard I will donate my property to the cause.

The oil companies have been closing refineries over the last decade. They're not in any hurry to build new ones.

Until we build new refineries and start pumping oil from our land I will never believe the the government has any intention of doing anything but gum flap. The people need to demand that the government authorize 10 new refineries and open all viable oil fields. If they happen to find oil in my back yard I will donate my property to the cause.Write to the lawmakers. Clinton vetoed drilling, and Congress failed to pass W's energy plan.

Bush is a Texa oil man.

He got out of the business before he entered politics.

The suggestion that he's somehow personally benefitting from high oil prices is incorrect.

I expect such nonsense from the DUmmies sites, but not here.

Did they close them because they wanted to or because it cost to much to comply to a green law?

Look at how the government and civil court system have been sodomizing the oil companies with over-regulation and threat of litigation.

Would you be in a hurry to double, treble, or quadruple your liability by adding a refinery to the one or two you may already possess as a ompany?

Let the government provide something akin to a stable business environment to make it worth the oil companies' investment.

The EPA, and politicians are on a runaway in this area. The oil companies see investment in new refineries as akin to setting up a business in the Korean DMZ.

I can hear the RATS already:

"President Bush is conspiring to lower gas prices before the November elections!"

Oh by the way, the Islamists are stupid. This was proven from the flight recordings on 9/11 - the hijackers were talking about "Allah the Merciful and Compassionate" while they were acting to kill thousands of innocent civilians. The irony of their actions as compared to their words and beliefs never entered their minds.

It also proves that we cannot deal with them rationally, except to coldly, rationally put them out of our misery.

Yes, I agree it is higher. Am doing some research now to find gas yield per gallon of crude, which will vary for sure from state to state. For what it is worth, in California, our gas taxes are about 41.6 cents state plus 18.4 cents federal. That is about 60 cents of the cost right there....more to follow.

Get on Townhall.com.

They have a tool for hitting all reps at once--Including president Bush.

I have written them twice and will probably hit them again.

They are blowing verbal flatuli as the nation dissolves. The Dems have enacted the over-regulation and poor foregn policy and the Pubs have refused to speak up with voices which cannot be shut up.

But our Republican friends are civil; by golly they are civil!

No way that crude is near 55%. Not at todays inflated prices.

What do you think is inflating those prices? Crude prices have tripled in price in 5 years.
