That would be interesting. I'd like to see them try and re-enact it after the 60 days were up.

Any politician who couldn't use the current oil prices to push through ANWR and off-shore drilling is inept!

How about permanently? The GOP should call their bluff and do that. But they won't because they are too stupid to just that. Most of the gas tax goes to fund bridges to nowhere and pork. It's money DC can do without.

Is this happening? I'll believe it from Dems when I see it. W should have proposed it, rather
than the Strategic Oil Reserve.

Good politics, bad for the market. At these prices you want to cut demand so dropping the price will only aggravate the problem and take it even higher.

Plus, if they are going to cut taxes then they had damn well better offset the revemue somewhere else.

The credit card is maxed out.

Democrat Party Chairman calls for tough border control and now the democrats want to suspend gasoline taxes!

Meanwhile Republicans call for investigations.

Helter Skelter!

W should have proposed it, rather than the Strategic Oil Reserve.

W should have proposed IN ADDITION to the Strategic Oil Reserve.

Politicians don't understand the laws of supply & demand, as do some on this site.

Whether it's good politically, it's silly from an economic standpoint. Market forces allocate scarcities and higher prices, which indicate demand outstripping supply, reduce consumption and bring those forces back into balance. Artificially reducing the price removes incremental resistance on use and thus demand increases, using up relatively scarce resources at a faster and more damaging rate. Of course, expecting anyone on Capitol Hill to understand basic econ 101 is a pipe dream. Just my 2 cents.

If buttercups buzz'd after the bee,
If boats were on land, churches on sea,
If ponies rode men and if grass ate the cows,
And cats should be chased into holes by the mouse,
If the mamas sold their babies
To the gypsies for half a crown;
If summer were spring and the other way round,
Then all the world would be upside down.

I agree. I used to think that cutting taxes would "starve the beast", but its clear that they'll just run the deficit higher and higher. Now I think they should just raise taxes to cover all of the socialist crap We The People demand from our government.

As I always suspected, there must be a significant number of oil stock holders among the Democrats. What a windfall! (And he picks up the telephone to call his broker.)
