Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino criticized the federal government at a mayors summit Tuesday for not doing enough to stop the spread of illegal guns.
"If the leadership won't come from Congress or from the White House, it will have to come from us," said Bloomberg, who headed the event with Menino that was billed as the first-ever national gun summit of mayors.
Bloomberg has focused on gun control as a priority for his second term. Crime statistics show the number of shootings this year is slightly lower than last year, but high-profile gun deaths - like that of a toddler killed by a stray bullet on Easter Sunday - continue to hold a spotlight on the issue.
Menino said he met recently with a sixth grade class in Boston in which nine out of 10 pupils said they knew where they could find a gun. The 73 homicides in Boston last year marked the highest number in 10 years, he said.
"Gun crime is a national problem that needs a national response," Menino said, noting that many guns used in Boston murders last year came from other states.
The mayors summit hopes to create a loose coalition that will trade crimefighting information, work together on city and state legislation and form a louder voice in Washington.

"Gun crime is a national problem that needs a national response," Menino said... What Mr. Potato Head actually said was: "Gub krm za nishnil pubbm nidza nishnil rippummz."

Pass mandatory issue concealed carry and watch violent crime take a drop.

Bloomberg and Menino = waste of oxygen. Useless, posturing turd-polishers.
Pass a *concealed carry* law and crime will drop like a stone, dumbasses. Or do what you've been doing, and watch it continue to spiral out of control.

"Menino said he met recently with a sixth grade class in Boston in which nine out of 10 pupils said they knew where they could find a gun."
My sixth grader also knows where he can find a gun. But, he's also been taught how to use one and thus understands they're not toys. He also knows where the keys to several vehicles are located, but he doesn't jump in them and take off.
It sounds like Menino would like to treat guns like crack cocaine.

They don't care about crime. They want to take guns from law-abiding citizens and don't care about guns in the hands of crooks.

This cowardly approach also has the added "benefit" for sociopathic politicians of creating reliance on the government for more and more of the people's welfare. That's perfect for a weasel like Bloomberg.

Menino said, noting that many guns used in Boston murders last year came from other states. Here is a better statistic....
100% of the guns were used by criminals.
Why don't they worry about hurting them instead of people who are obeying the law?!

Their determination to disarm all people has nothing to do with crime or safety. A neutered public is easier to control and tax

when you live 24/7 with maximum security watching all the time, you tend to forget what it takes to defend yourself in a slumhole like that city is turning into

Sanctimonious pr**k. . .then again, it's easy to advocate restictions on others' lives when your net worth is > $5 billion and you can afford your own security detail. . .

Legal gun owners with concealed carry permits are a voluntary police force.
Why not increase public safety by putting more unpaid cops on the street? No cost, no problem.
Or could it possibly be that public safety is not their goal?

Gangsters get in a gunfight on the street, not caring who or what they hit and a child is killed.
So why are they not having a mayors' conference on gang bangers? Why not a conference on unemployed drug selling youth? I guess our guns are an easier target.
