they had the ability to hijack an airplane years ago

The first airplane hijacked to Cuba was in 1958. I don't think 9/11 was a significant technological advance.

It was not a technological advance it was a novel method of using old technology in a particularly novel and brutal way.

Count on them doing the same thing again.
