Guiliani Film Unflattering To "America's Mayor"

Among other things, the film suggests Giuliani was obsessed with ridding the city of pesky "squeegee men" who ambushed drivers by washing their windshields and demanding payment, but cared little about reducing poverty or creating jobs.

He is also painted as a moral hypocrite, one who threatened to pull public funding from a controversial art exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum but had no qualms about parading a mistress before the public and the press.

And some analysts say the film's criticisms of Giuliani might actually help him among Republicans, many of whom are skeptical of his moderate views on abortion, gay rights and gun control.

Keating hopes his film becomes part of the Giuliani template for voters who might be inclined to support him if he runs for president but know little about the totality of his record.

Among the most startling comments come from Rudy Crew, a former New York City schools chancellor who is now the school superintendent in Miami-Dade County, Florida. "There's something very deeply pathological about Rudy's humanity," Crew says. "He was barren, completely emotionally barren, on the issue of race."

Indeed, tensions between the New York City police department and the city's black population during Giuliani's tenure play a central role in "Giuliani Time."

So, he was "obsessed" with a legitimate function of government but "cared little" about things that were **not his job**.

What the hell does that even mean?

I thought it sounded pretty strange, too. The whole piece was really hard to edit down to 300 words!

Rudy did great things, Rudy did insane things, Rudy did what he thought was best.

What he really did was lead regardless of the polls. He led with his heart and never apologized for what he believed in. Love him or hate him, you had to admire that.

I did a search before I posted this and nothing came up! Sorry, don't know how entering "Guiliani" missed bringing it up!

but "cared little" about things that were **not his job**.

I had this reaction too, but attributed that to my many years doing social work. As for Guiliani being a mod, I'm not too sure about that one! ;o)

I don't know why, he's never going to get the nomination.

Hey! I smell fear, too! And you know, thank goodness Clinton bedded half the south, that way Rudy's little mistress prob won't even see the light of day anymore!

Wonder how much the Dems paid Keating to make this little low budget wonder? Want to bet he won't break even?

Probably because I did a search on the keyword Rudy too. Also I knew this was posted before because I was posting replies on one of those threads ;-)

Stating he's moderate (a person who stands for nothing) means that he's for all three!

All I know is that NYC was a cess pool of crime, violence, and drugs before Rudy came to office. Times Square was not a place you would want to be at night. Rudy completely turned that all around and make NYC one of the safest, most family friendly big cities in the country. The guy sure did get the job done, much to the disdain of the local race hustlers, porn shops, and other associated low lifes.

Yeah, that's what I thought was meant by "mod." Someone who goes with the flow because that way there's less expected of him.

I don't see Rudy as that particular brand of chicken feed.

That basically covers them doesn't it? lol

Seriously though, for the people here who don't like Rudy because they think he is too conservative, you just have to remember his circumstances. He was as conservative as you can possibly be as a mayor in a heavily leftist city like NYC. Sure, he could have come out as the next version of Ronald Reagan, but then he NEVER would have been mayor, and NYC NEVER would have experienced the turnaround that it did.

Plus, if he were to run for president, I can think of no other candidate that would fight the WOT harder than him. The guy has some serious balls.

I think I prefer him to McCain as a candidate. I'm not sure, but if he's got brass ones [and I think he has] it may be a good idea to have him there. I'm thinking, what's he doing now?

If he decides to run he's got my vote in the primary. If he doesn't win the primary I will vote for whomeever wins the Republican nomination.
