At least 22 people have been killed and scores more injured in three explosions in the Egyptian resort town of Dahab, reports say. The blasts occurred in quick succession in an area frequented by tourists at about 1915 local (1715 GMT).

One resident told Reuters news agency that there were "body parts and debris in the street".

Police said more than 20 ambulances and police cars rushed to the el-Masbat area of the Red Sea resort.

An interior ministry spokesman confirmed the blasts. "There were explosions, but the picture is still not clear," he told Reuters news agency.

One eyewitness told the BBC he heard three "very loud explosions" in the shopping area of the town. After the blast he said he saw "a lot of bloody people coming by".

"The Egyptian police are very organised and they've cleared out the whole area where the bombs went off," he said.

The Red Sea Coast resort is a popular tourist spot.

In July 2005, more than 60 people died in a bomb attack in the tourist area of the Egyptian resort town of Sharm al-Sheik.

Shame. I've spent several months in total in Egypt over the past 15 years. It is a beautiful country with a history that is awe inspiring.

I was last in Dahab in 1992. A beautiful town at the time - mainly popular with the backpacker set as you could get a room in a hostel for about 5 dollars a night, incredible beaches, outstanding weather, world class scuba and snorkelling and the most CHILLED OUT ATTITUDE I've ever encountered in an Arab country. Also popular with Israleli's even back then. Possibly a little toooo chilled out as Drugs and Alchohol were rife at the time (perhaps part of the attraction for me back then!). Anyway, I understand that it has developed a lot since then without loosing too much of its soul. It's a great base for visiting Mount Sinai. I will have a prayer for those caught up in this.

We talked about this the other day; at some of these beaches, Israelis go, at least the place hit last time was known to entertain such tourists along with westerners.

Of course, Egypt hosted the 2006 African Nations Cup; high security they did not need one article read. I am sure, it is a very beautiful quaint country.

Some Middle Eastern states; Egypt trying to become one, are progressive. An interesting event that many do not know about is when Islamic Terrorists murdered, beheaded Monks in Algeria; where the Monks had lived in peaceful coexistence with Moslems for centuries.

Someone mentioned that its prominence as an Israeli vacation spot might have something to do with this.

Just Practictioners of TROP. Have pity for the people who died, blame Israel and the US, then move along.
