Republicans ARE responsible for the high gas prices in that they refuse to take action that would reduce the price of gasoline. Gasoline taxes could be suspended or permanently reduced. Regulations could be eased or eliminated. Oil companies could be granted immunity from lawsuits regarding the MTE standards.
