Make it required.>>>>>>

LOL.......As usual our *lawmakers* inserted the *usual* loophole to protect the illegal employers & their illegal employees.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1037329/posts

"President Bush signs workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal aliens"....12-03-2003

(snip)
How it works: By December of 2004, every business in America will have a nearly sure-fire way to verify if a new employee is an illegal alien or has the right to work in America.

Most importantly, no business in America will have an excuse for hiring illegals.

(snip)
But the program is VOLUNTARY.....

You have to contact SSA, not the State, they don't have anything to do with this. If you contact SSA they correct your earnings record and I believe contact the IRS. SSNs are a federal function not a state and local function.

I suppose we need a law requiring them (under penalty of some sort) to report these things, and the SS folks to do something about it. Think THAT would get passed?

Just out of curiosity, did you have an inclination this was happening before you contacted the state tax board for your W-2's?

No... and I pulled my W2 going back for 3 year... that same person had been reporting on my SSN for at least that long

I've heard the only way you can be tipped off is by the Social Security statements sent out once a year.

My Social Security statements DID NOT have and have never shown any one but me....

The thing is I went to the a (Federal) SS office on this...they (the Fed SS office) would not tell me that there was any one else reporting under my SSN...

If you go to an SS office you can only get a report for info under your SSN and your name...(they ask for my id before saying anything)... you do not get ever thing under your SSN ....just under your name....

The kicker is once I told them I knew that there was someone reporting under my SSN...I was told that what I could do was request they fax a letter to the employer that was reporting under it, to confirm it was correct... but I had to tell them the employer I wanted it faxed to... but they would not tell me who that other person employer was...

(I.E. I had to tell SS office the "other person" employer (never-mind already had it in SS office database and would be the only source of that info)... but SS office would not tell me the other person employer because I was not the "other person" ... a gov "Catch 22" game at it's best)

The one point I should have made clear is the only reason I ever found out is the original State worker had made a "screw up" in giving me the other person name under my SSN...other times I gone in two the state tax board they do the same as the Fed SS (SSN and your name with id before saying anything)

The bottom line is with Republicans not taking a strong stand against illegals and enabling more bad stuff, lots of Republicans are NOT GOING TO VOTE and the House, Senate and Presidency will be turned over to the Democrats.

There is NO WAY Republicans can survive being on the illegals side of this issue.

They have everything to lose and nothing to gain backing illegals or their employers.

We are looking at the end of Republican control of leadership soon and for some time. If our Republican representatives are THAT stupid, then we deserve to lose it all, to purge the party leadership and go at it again a new.

Make no mistake, we are watching the turnover fully of power back to Democrats right now.

STUPID STUPID STUPID!

Actually - I don't have a problem with the law being voluntary - just make sure that employers caught with illegal employees have to pay at least $10k PER violation...

There is a non government site that allows you to check and see if Social Security Numbers are valid numbers and also verify if the number is reported to a deceased person. You're 100% right... with all the online fraud, illegal aliens, and bad credit around, some people purposefully use another SSN (even a deceased persons or child's) to get work or credit. To make sure the number is valid you can at least use this ssn verification tool.
