From the Irish Times: Bubonic plague is not contagious, but if left untreated ...

That can't be right.

A "civil" right, by definition, is for citizens only.

civil
Pronunciation: 'si-v&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin civilis, from civis

1 a : of or relating to citizens

Any "GUEST WORKER PROGRAM" is AMNESTY, PERIOD! How do they expect to find a guest worker when his time comes up to leave. One week before his/her scheduled departure they will simply slip into oblivion in the land of milk and honey.

In fact, the late Barbara Jordan, undoubtedly one of the best-known black politicians of all time, who also chaired the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform in the 1990s, was among those who warned about the adverse impact of cheap alien labor on blacks. She was hardly a conservative, yet she advocated restrictions on immigration.

Barbara may have been a Liberal but she was also a very good American. If only the Black Caucus would use her as a role model.

How do they expect to find a guest worker when his time comes up to leave.

Our previous guest worker program handled that quite nicely. Typically, up to 1/2 of their wages were withheld until they arrived back in their home town.
Also, employers were penalized for hiring anyone who wasn't a legitimate guest worker.

If there is a legal way to be a guest worker, there's a lot that can be done to prevent illegals from ever working here. With no hope of employment, few would come.

If that were true we would have neither legal our moral authority to maintain a border at all. Just throw open the border to the poor, oppressed, and diseased of the world. After all we did it before but still had health standards and required naturalization for citizenship.By the way the Black Death (Bubonic Plague) has broken out in LA. Anyone for Leprosy?

Agreed - I still have a problem with allegiance if there is not borders. To become a citizen you are supposed to believe and pledge this: "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen.”(US Oath of Allegiance)

So border-jumping Mexican citizens have civil rights--in Mexico! And to protect those civil rights, I suggest they scurry back there and vote AGAINST the communist candidate for President. If Mexico reverts to communism, then we will get a run of refugees crossing the border that we cannot return humanely to their homeland. Mexico first delved into the evil of Communism after their 1917 Revolution and only recently has returned to freedom (excluding Oaxaca and Chiapas).

This is a point that needed to be made. I was around for the civil rights movement.

And I am sick of every new breed minority grievance group that comes along and claims their "cause" to be equal to the civil rights movement of the '60s.

They none of them have any idea or concept of the real grievances and sufferings of blacks in America prior to that time. There was outright, unequal racial segregation in the South, as well as the KKK, and there was more subtle discrimination in the cities of the North.

No group of immigrants to this country has suffered on such a scale, and no other rights-demanding group can claim moral equivalence. Period.

The Hispanic Challenge (To America) A MUST READ Samuel Huntington (Long But Good)

The Mexicans are unlike previous immigrants. This Huntington article definitely needs to be read by everyone at least once! It should be linked on pertinent immigration threads. Here's an interesting link about Samuel Huntington:

"Strangely enough, despite the fact that he was buddies with Henry Kissinger at Harvard, he is registered as a member of the Democratic Party, and has written foreign policy speeches for Adlai Stevenson, Hubert Humphrey, and Jimmy Carter."

THREATS AND RESPONSES: LEGISLATION; SENATE VOTES, 90-9, TO SET UP A HOMELAND SECURITY DEPT. GEARED TO FIGHT TERRORISM

Senator Phil Gramm of Texas, the president's chief Senate supporter in changing the Civil Service protections in the bill, acknowledged that Democrats had written 95 percent of the bill and acknowledged the paradoxical role of small-government Republicans like him in advocating for such a large department.

And which party is now making it useless.

Bush: Democrat killed immigration bill

In private as well as public, Reid and Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who heads the party's campaign effort, said they did not want to expose rank-and-file Democrats to votes that would force them to choose between border security and immigrant rights, only to wind up with legislation that would be eviscerated in future negotiations with the House, which has passed a bill limited to boosting border security.
