Just adjusted my work schedule to work 4x per week, which is a good thing as I need Fridays to work around the yard, etc. But I'll still save ~20% on fuel costs, which does not hurt either...

The demonrats and their environmentalist buddies are directly responsible for high gas prices.

Taxes paid by Californians when we buy gasoline:

http://www.lao.ca.gov/2000/051100_cal_travels/051100_cal_travels_finance.html

• State and federal transportation revenues are collected primarily through the state and federal excise (per gallon) taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel.

• Californians pay the following taxes at the pump:

• 18 cents in state tax for each gallon of gasoline and diesel fuel (generally referred to as the "gas" tax).

• 18.4 cents in federal tax for each gallon of gasoline.

• 24.4 cents in federal tax for each gallon of diesel fuel.

• 7.25 percent uniform state and local sales tax, plus optional local sales taxes for transportation or other purposes varying by county. The majority of the uniform state and local sales tax proceeds are not used for transportation purposes.

Counties and cities can add taxes to the base tax rate.

Gasoline buyers in San Francisco pay about 8.5% sales tax on gasoline.

As noted above the California Sales is based on the $ cost. The dirty secret is the sales tax is calculated after all the state and federal taxes are added to the per gallon cost.

Restaurants will be the hardest hit. People will stop going out to eat, you get two for one that way.

Ok, I have my tinfoil hat on so don't flame me to much.

Because of this, I think that any immigration bill will be delayed. (Yes I know). If industry was hit with rising energy, raw material, and employment costs all at the same time, many would fold.

Heck, with just the rising energy costs a lot of US industries will be facing some tough choices next quarter.

Just make some cars with coaxial axles that generate electricity in the same way as hydro turbines. Do the same with the drive shaft too. They're all turning most of the time unless you're stuck in beltway traffic. Or has that already been done? I seem to remember hearing about one hybrid car that recharges when you brake but nothing in the way of how it generates power. Maybe raise the driving age to 18 too, but I doubt parents want to drag their kids everywhere when the kids could do it themselves.

When the Rats take over congress the first thing they'll do is open ANWR and Coastal Drilling in an "eco-friendly" way and then the Republicans will have no choice but to sign off on it giving the Rats all the credit.

Crude was higher per barrel after the Iranian Revolution, if you adjust for inflation. I need to go find the chart so I can post it.

it's the fault of the RAT pols who vote against any attempt to drill for oil anywhere or increase the number of refineries or to build new nuke generators. They also oppose wind farms, especially in their neighborhood (Kennedy and Kerry, for example).

Here in Central New York, we're paying $3.11! That's higher than the national average. Cheez.

I have read that George Soros invented the crude oil futures trading game. Does anyone have any information to share about that? Additionally, how were things done before the current system was adopted?

I don't mind paying extra for gas. I know the oil companies are investing the profits in research for alternative fuels. </sarcasm>

I think the speculators who think they can hold US$70+ per barrel are going to be in for an unpleasant surprise soon. I personally believe that once the price of oil punched through the US$70 per barrel barrier, the price of petroleum products starts to become elastic (e.g., consumers become sensitive to price). Already, with consumers starting to cut back on driving the stage is set for a possible huge oversupply of petroleum products by mid-summer, and that will cause oil prices to drop quite a bit.

Also, price controls is a terrible idea. Remember what happened during the 1970's--price controls actually caused flat-out shortages because it did not allow the natural forces of economic equilibrium to work.

This is what you get when you restrict the free market. Yet some people think that more government control, more government restrictions - more communism - is the answer.

You want the solution? Cut the damn restrictions placed on putting up new refineries, and open up the Alaskan wastelands to the free market.

Tell the communists, the enviro-turds, the big government ninnies, and the economically-illiterate populist morons (oh, how I love to repeat myself!) to (1) go **** themselves and (2) move to Cuba or some other Hillary-village shiteaucracy where they can enjoy taxing, regulating, and criminalizing themselves into absolute poverty.

Ironically, $10 gas is good for Republicans who will have an instant mandate to drill oil, mine coal, and build nukes as fast as possible to reverse a massive depression.

In the interim, the US military will annex the Venezuelan and Middle Eastern oil fields until energy independence is achieved.

BUMP
