The article said that the bill may have been "as much as.....".

As soon as I see "as much as" or "less than", I quit reading.

That's somebody's wild ass guess. Similar to listening to a used car salesman.

In that case they should have put

"paid for a meal that may have cost as much as $22,800"

but that would have been less believable by the general public. But I agree with you. This is a non story for the purpose of bashing another GOPer and people will jump on the bandwagon because it's chic right now.
