I respect their right to be and remain stupid but at some point you gotta wonder.

There was a limo-lib on a TV talk show a couple of weeks ago (can't remember her name) encouraging everybody to replace there existing incandescent lightbulbs with those screw-in fluorescent ones. She said that if everybody replaced just 5 bulbs, the energy savings would be the equivalent of taking 3 million cars off the road per day.

So I'm thinking, hmmmmmmmm, that might be true.......

But then she kept talking. She said that there were a number of other things that we could do in our homes to reduce energy consumption such as unplugging the toaster, blow-dryer and other appliances when not in use.

Now I'm thinking, what a moron but knowing that there was a million other morons listening to her and jumping up to go unplug their toasters then patting themselves on the back for conserving energy.

And of course, the television interview babe was eating this stuff up.

unplugging the toaster

That is funny! She was close though. Applicances that start by remote control consume some power in their "wait" state. If you unplugged those, you would save some electricity. Changing lighting where possible is a good idea, not only because of the electricity used but because of the heat generated.
