President George W. Bush is likely to get a large welcome from the county's highly vocal anti-illegal immigration activists when he comes to Irvine on Monday morning to pitch his immigration plan.

Awesome list - thank you!
Let's everyone call and email. The backstabbers will be back on Monday to vote on something the majority of us are against. Let's make it as uncomfortable as possible for them!
True. And most of us don't recommend it. It is far more logical and would be far more efficient to crack down hard on employers. The jobs would soon dry up and the illegals would deport themselves at their own expense. They got here easily enough and now they have more money. It would go quickly and smoothly.
This is where he is staying while in Napa County.

Here is what the President thinks. It comes straight from the WH website.
It sounds a lot like this to me.
I'd love to hear your calm and reasoned counter-argument.
Too funny for words. For one thing, is there are vines, and you plan to pick strawberries or cabbage, then you have the wrong fields.
Any bets that he will never mention the word "illegal" in describing the criminal invaders? Of course he will only spread the lies about Americans being too lazy to do the work, or $10 lettuce and how Mexicans are only good honest people while American citizens are vigilantes.
Bush can talk till he's blue in the face but he has stabbed the conservative base for the last time - many will never trust him. Talk is cheap lets see some sustained action.
Strawberries do grow on vines.
Bull, they grow on plants, that send out runners to form new plants, not to set fruit. Cucumbers, melons, grapes, tomatoes, Kiwi and a few others grow on vines. Never seen a cabbage on a vine but if you do, take a picture.
Ask him, "If the illegal aliens are naturalized won't they demand health care, retirement bennies, paid vacation, family leave and sick days? In fact they won't have to demand it the law would require it wouldn't it? The employers will let them go and hire all new illegal foreign nationals who will be coming here in a ratio of 3-1, like last time amnesty was granted, because of what they see has just happened. Again."
Only 4% of illegals work in agriculture.
Read the WH position paper and baffled about what in it bothers you. Please be specific. The translation from the Eagle Forum is what it is, a fund raising tool. We are going to integrate the governments of Mexico, The USA and Canada? You can`t be serious.
Once again, those are Bush's own words. Bush needs to be smarter than that.
Many freepers are acting like GWB is single handily, intentionally destroying the country.
He's doing a bang-up job of splintering the GOP by being tone-deaf to the base on this issue.
That is so much BS and, while we are at war with terrorists, not very smart.
Uh, no, it's not very smart to alientate your base by pushing an ill-advised guest worker pseudo-amnesty program.
But, many don`t care. Maybe they think that the Rats will do a better job and, if they keep up, we just might find out.
Well, the base has been saying for years that amnesty was not negotiable. Maybe you should get after the Bush Admin for thinking they could just tell the base to stifle themselves.
You speak for the base of the Republican party? Thats the same base that spit the party and allowed California to go in the tank. Time for the base to grow up and stop holding their breath when they can get everything they want.
Why don`t we work together to stop more illegals from coming in cause that is the big problem.
"Please answer this question. After all the illegals are out, all ii million of them, exactly who is going to replace them? We have full employment now. Are folks from LA going to give up their high paying jobs to pick strawberries in the hot Sun? Will you volunteer?"
How about requiring the 20+ million welfare recipients to work. NO worky no freebie no foodie. Worked in the depression when people didnt need to suck the govt. nipple dry. One only has to see all the generational welfare recipients via Hurricane Katrina who cant do a danm thing w/o govt. intervention that could use a job to regain their self respect and dignity.
There are plenty of people to do the work if the pay is appropriate - i.e. more than they recieve on welfare. If you dont like to eat then fine otherwise get your ass out there and work. People with physical and extreme mental disabilities are excused. Able bodied lazy asses - collecting welfare and watching Oprah all day are not.
Yep. That's why it's "funny" seeing illegals out there demanding higher pay and benefits. You're x-ing yourself out, hombre! You're only here because you work for under-the-table slave wages.
Uh, no. But the base has been loud and clear on the need for better border security and not having anything resembling amnesty.
Thats the same base that spit the party and allowed California to go in the tank. Time for the base to grow up and stop holding their breath when they can get everything they want.
Yeah, it's NEVER the fault of pubbies when they ignore the base and then lose the support of the base.
Do you want me to rattle off the list of Bush's actions where the base has held its nose and still voted for him in 2004 despite what he did? Spending. Education. Medicare. Just for starters. So your attempts to treat the base like spoiled brats who aren't getting "everything they want" is both absurd and insulting.
Now Bush will never face re-election again. But the GOP House will. If you are TRULY concerned about the electoral health of the GOP, listen to those running for re-election this year - the House. And what are they doing? RESISTING BUSH'S POSITIONS ON THIS.
So what is your real issue here?
Why don`t we work together to stop more illegals from coming in cause that is the big problem.
Because Bush doesn't seem to think that is a major concern? I feel the same way myself - border security first, and then we talk about what to do with those illegals who are already here. But Bush is so hell-bent on his guest worker program that he would split the party to further his agenda.
