NASA has asked the China National Space Administration (CNSA) to take part next week in an invitation-only Exploration Strategy Workshop to be held in Washington, D.C.
The confab is seen by NASA as the first step in a series of activities planned for 2006 that will focus on defining a global space exploration strategy for robotic and human lunar exploration, including the role of the Moon as a stepping stone to Mars and other destinations. This event will bring together representatives from a broad range of communities to work in multidisciplinary teams, exchanging ideas on the strategy for exploration.
The workshop is an outgrowth from President George W. Bushs visionary agenda unveiled in January 2004 of Moon, Mars, and beyond exploration goals that he tasked NASA to undertake.

why should we miss out on a chance to share our missile technolgy with china?
I'm sure that NASA thought of this all by themselves, that it makes great sense to invite a country that couldn't get a missile to strike an earthbound target within 10,000 miles until President Clinton gave them the technology, to enter into discussions about exploratory missions to Mars. Ya sure.
Robotics is not only the only possible future of space development, it is also the only possible new American Industrial Revolution. Maybe China can get into that, the Revolution part.
The Japanese already own that market. Google Fanuc.
Nobody owns anything in robotics. The field is hardly in its infancy and no major apps have been invented except maybe the cruise control in the car. America has a whole new generation that is savvy with computers, and that talent is going to waste with hacking and games. Robotics development can be done really cheap until it is time to mass produce and that can be done anywhere. American entrepreneurs should be on this like moose on cabbage.
Bad, bad move. Never commune with back stabbers.
Time to get my brown coat drycleaned?
I'm sure you are a nice guy, but you don't have a clue what you are talking about.
We cooperate with the Chinese in space - the day after they toss off their Communist masters' shackles - and not a day sooner. To do differently shames good people in both countries that have fought and died for freedom.
