Rather than press China's president to liberalize, the White House imports his muzzle on the media.
FOR HU JINTAO, the substance of his summit meeting with President Bush today will occur before it ever begins -- with the 21-gun salute the Chinese president will receive on the White House lawn. Broadcast back to China, the reception will be offered by the communist regime as proof that Mr. Bush regards Mr. Hu as a strategic partner in managing global affairs. But there's another signal moment of the day's events, which will occur just after the Bush-Hu talks. Contrary to the standard protocol for visiting heads of state, there will be no news conference at which American and Chinese journalists can ask unscripted questions.
The White House's acquiescence to a Chinese demand that Mr. Hu not be subjected to possibly embarrassing queries about political prisoners, religious freedom or censorship of the Internet symbolizes a major element of Mr. Bush's policy -- his willingness to relegate China's worsening performance on political freedom and human rights to a back burner

The WaPo clowns ran this jab in the morning addition before the South Lawn incident. After what's transpired, one of three things will likely be discussed in the MSM tonight and over the next couple of days......
1) The talking heads will complain the Bush administration could not keep control over the event and embarrassed an "important world leader."
2) They'll complain it took a Chinese dissident to discuss what they were unwilling or unable to do.
3) The said dissident was a plant, designed to get out the message, while providing cover for the administration (a Rovian plot).
Any way you look at it.......IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!
Thanks
I'm usually a big Bush defenderr around here, but why is he unafraid to take on the rest of the world when it comes to terror but he's afraid to tell this SOB "This is MY country, you don't get to dictate terms, and we'll talk about anything we damn-well please"?
Sorry, I have to side with the Post this time. Because they're right.
So what is your take? Is the truth one of those three, or something else?
*whiper*Rovvve!!.... Rove!*end whisper*
lmao!! Rush does a funny as hell whisper.. Rove is like Kryptonite for the Libs... lmao!!
I believe this was planned by the individual and group ahead of time. They were crafty in obtaining legitimate credentials to be on site.
We go out of our way to maintain decorum in public engagements with the worst of the worst (Arafat and others), while the ROTW seems to go out of their way to embarrass our leaders when they visit. It was one resourceful individual expressing the opinion of many....nothing more or less.
Rush does a few good ones... I really like his McCain!
