P.S. I believe this situation is a special circumstance, as the gov't that she is protesting jails people with dissenting viewpoints and who attempt free speech. So, to prove how China is doing wrong, we jail her for exercising free speech? A bit of a contradiction, isn't it?

No, but I don't believe they should press charges and throw her in the klink either. Then we are just like China, aren't we?
And in Guantanamo we are just like the Nazis, Soviets, and Pol Pot, Senator Durbin.
We have a judicial process. If you don't like what the Court does in this case, work for candidates who will appoint judges more to your liking.
So, to prove how China is doing wrong, we jail her for exercising free speech?
It is up to our elected officials, primarily the President and his appointed officers, to tell China what we think of its treatment of dissenters, and to decide whom we consider dissenters vs whom we consider simply totalitarians without power who would never give others the rights of dissent that they now claim for themselves.
If you sympathize with the Fulan Gong, you can express your support to the lady while she is in prison or out.
